On Friday, June 26, Dr. E. Xiomara Herman announced she will be resigning as superintendent of schools for Amherst, effective June 30, 2027. Though my wife and I have lived in Amherst since July 2011, we never really paid much attention to the schools until April 14, 2025. That is the date our daughter, who had just turned 3, began attending preschool at Crocker Farm Elementary. Since then, we both have been so thankful for the Amherst schools. From the services our daughter receives, to the friends she has made, to the cheerful greeting each morning from every staff member, we could not be happier with Crocker Farm, and thus, by association, with the Amherst Schools.

I am ignorant of the inner workings of the Amherst school district; admittedly, prior to our daughter attending, I skipped over such articles in the Gazette. I cannot tell you if this quality education occurred before Dr. Herman’s arrival. What I do know is, our daughter loves preschool at Crocker Farm and that has occurred solely under Dr. Herman’s administration. So if you are reading this, Dr. Herman, I know I speak for my wife when I say we will be sad to see you go. We thank you for all you have done for the children of Amherst, and our daughter in particular. You have made her first steps in education a wonderful experience. Thank you and bless you.
