Big Rig Day coming to South Hadley

SOUTH HADLEY — Buttery Brook Park in South Hadley will host Big Rig Day on Thursday, July 16, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The event is free to attend and will feature various types of big rigs including fire trucks, police cars, utility trucks, ambulances and more. Attendees can climb into the cabs, ride the aerial ladder and meet the people who operate these vehicles.

Set up begins at 9:15 a.m., and organizers are expecting a sizeable crowd for the two-hour event sponsored by the South Hadley Recreation Department, SHELD, Fiberspring, The Friends of Buttery Brook and All Star Dairy. 

Wayne Walton has graciously allowed us to use his property across the street for overflow parking. A police detail will be working during the event to help with traffic flow and people crossing the street.  

Weather cancellations will be made by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, July 16.

Community vaccine clinic for pets coming to Holyoke

HOLYOKE — Second Chance Animal Services is returning to Holyoke with a second low-cost Community Vaccine Clinic for cats and dogs on Friday, July 17, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Veteran’s Park, 216-228 Maple St.

The clinic will offer free distemper/parvo vaccines, including $10 rabies vaccines, $19 Leptospirosis vaccines, and microchips for $5, making it easy and affordable for pet owners to protect their pets.

Many families face barriers to accessing veterinary care, leaving pets vulnerable to diseases that can be prevented with routine vaccinations. By bringing these services directly into the community, Second Chance helps more pets receive the care they need to stay healthy.

Distemper and parvovirus are highly contagious diseases that can be deadly, particularly for puppies, kittens, and unvaccinated pets. Vaccinating pets not only protects them from serious illness but also helps reduce the spread of disease throughout the community.

Microchipping is another simple step that can make a lasting difference. A permanent form of identification, a microchip greatly increases the chances that a lost pet will be reunited with the family waiting for them at home.

Sabadosa, Mark to hold town hall in Worthington

WORTHINGTON — State Rep. Lindsay Sabadosa and state Sen. Paul Mark will hold a
Town Hall discussion on Monday, July 20, at 6 p.m., at Worthington Town Hall.

The event will last until 7:30 p.m. and will feature updates on the legislative session, specific policy updates and a question-and-answer session. All are welcome to attend.

Belchertown Historical Association’s ice cream social

BELCHERTOWN — The Belchertown Historical Association is hosting its annual ice cream social on Sunday, July 26, from 2 to 4 p.m. on the grounds of the Stone House Museum, 20 Maple St.

The public is invited to attend and share in a typical, community gathering from the 19th and early 20th centuries. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and find a shady spot to sit and enjoy Rondeau’s ice cream.
