It’s happening again! The Amherst Community Band will once again be performing at Sweetser Park, July 25 at 6:30 p.m.. If it rains, the event will be held at St Brigid’s Church 122 North Pleasant St. The guest conductor for this concert will be Juli Sansoucy, who conducted this band many years ago.
The music is reflective of summer, such as Porgy and Bess’s Summertime, and Sousa marches. Other selections such as John Williams marches: The Raiders March, The Imperial March and The Olympic Fanfare Theme are sure to bring recognizable smiles to many. There will be other band classics performed as well.
It was wonderful to see hundreds of people attend Amherst Community Band’s last outdoor June concert of American Music at Sweetser Park. The Amherst Historical Society co-sponsored the event and surprised everyone with ice pops as well as told the story of Amherst community bands through the ages. The audience as well as band members thank the society for their collaboration..
Bring a lawn chair, friends, family, and enjoy listening to music played by your neighbors and friends of the community. Afterwards, enjoy eating, or snacking in one of the many restaurants Amherst has to offer whether it would be for cookies, iced tea, ice cream, ice cream yogurt, dinner or pastry, the town has it all!
Thank you to the Mass Cultural Council, the Amherst Cultural Council, Amherst BID, and UMass, for helping make this possible.
