My grandmother, mother, and myself all went to Smith College. We were taught to be “women for the world,” yet Smith College has recently decided to obfuscate its responsibility towards building towards a better world. As reported by the Gazette, Smith’s Advisory Committee on Investor Responsibility has shirked an ethical investment policy put forward by Smith Students for Justice in Palestine and Smith Alums for Justice in Palestine. Now, to be “women for the world,” my family cannot in good conscience donate to our alma mater.
Other Smith alums: join me in withholding donations until Smith commits to divesting from an extractive, violent economy of war crimes. Smith College: be an institution for the world. Go all-in on a regenerative economy by committing wholeheartedly to ethical investments.
Smith College must thrive without ties to genocide in Palestine.
