Granby’s Ryley Regan competed in the 93rd Massachusetts Girls’ Junior Amateur Championship at Ledges Golf Club in South Hadley earlier this week.
Regan advanced to the quarterfinal round after shooting four-over during the first two days of competition, which entailed 18-hole stroke play on Monday and Tuesday. Regan carded a 76 on Monday before firing an even-par round of 72 on Tuesday.
As one of the top 16 scorers from stroke play of the 48 total participants, Regan advanced to the knockout stage, which was played in a Match Play format.
First in the Round of 16 on Wednesday morning, Regan outlasted Chloe Zhang in a 22-hole marathon match with a birdie on the par-4 fourth hole to clinch the victory and move on to the quarterfinal round later that afternoon.
Regan held a 3-up advantage going into the back nine of the quarterfinal duel, but Longmeadow Country Club’s Cecily Henshon roared back to win 2&1 by taking five of the last six holes and advance to the final day of competition on Thursday.
During last year’s championship at Crumpin-Fox Golf Club in Bernardston, Regan fell in the Round of 16, which also served as the Hopkins Academy star’s first time playing in the statewide event.
Henshon claimed the championship title after beating Maddie Chang 3&2 in the finals on Thursday afternoon.
