Merritt Island, FL – Gary Michael Cook passed away unexpectedly on June 18, 2026. He will be remembered for his easygoing nature, unforgettable sense of humor, generosity and remarkable work ethic.
Born in Springfield, Massachusetts, Gary was the son of Beverly Cook and the late Kenneth Cook. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Bob Cook.
He is survived by his mother, Beverly; his siblings Dan, Joe, Steve, John, Kathleen Ford, Jim, Tom, and Ken Cook and their families; his children, Michael Cook (Liliana) and Stephanie Cook Corrado (Craig); his grandchildren, Macen, Camila, Carter, Roman, and Teagan, who affectionately called him “Big G”; his longtime girlfriend, Julie Rutter; his former wife, Denise Cook; and many extended family members and friends.
Gary began his career at Amherst Optical Shoppe, the family business founded by his father, before building a successful career in Amherst real estate. He enjoyed golf, tennis, traveling, and called Florida home for the past two decades. Gary especially loved island hopping through the Bahamas.
Gary’s family and friends will honor his life the way he would have wanted – with a drink in hand and a Celebration of Life dedicated to remembering the love and happiness he brought to everyone who knew him.
