I don’t want to think the editorial cartoons of July 23 and July 25 reflect the Gazette’s editorial position because each is an example of meaningless depiction of a fatuous point of view: the first is merely “drawn name-calling,” — simply reverse the totems’ spatial positions, so “the donkey” asks, and “the elephant” answers. And nothing except “who” is taunting, and “who” is taunted is changed: and if the taunt’s so readily applied to either, as this, it’s meaningless. Similar vacuous is Saturday’s cartoon which depicts a donkey drowning, anchored to… communism. Communism — really? How more pertinent to show the same cartoon with an elephant drowning, anchored to fascism, and corruption, deceit, war, tariffs… all of which are actual, provable points. But communism? Might as well link Democrats to the Tories! Two virtually meaningless offering on the editorial page: embarrassed to see it in the Gazette.
