Florence, MA – Charles Adams, 84, of Florence, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, July 17, 2026. He was born in Northampton on November 16, 1941, to the late George and Marion (Starkus) Adams Sr.
Charlie, as he was affectionately known, was quite the character. From his early years at Pro Brush and Milton Bradley to his last job delivering papers for the Daily Hampshire Gazette, Charlie could always be found talking to someone whether they were a friend or not. Charlie served as a member of the Massachusetts Army National Guard, obtaining the rank of Sergeant First Class before retiring in 2001. It was here that he made his biggest impact. Numerous Soldiers consider him somewhat of a legend, Charlie was always trying to make sure the Soldiers were well taken care of. Charlie served as the Commander of the Haydenville American Legion on two separate occasions. On the family side of things Charlie was deeply involved with his brothers on the farm and constantly critiquing his nephew in planting methods. He spent a lot of time with his grandson doing outdoor activities (mostly fishing) and watching him become a mechanic, lending advice whenever needed.
He is survived by his daughter Tracie Rojas and her husband Roberto of Jacksonville Beach, FL, his grandson Joseph Adams of Easthampton and a granddaughter Bianca Benedetto of N.C., two great grandsons, Carter and Jaiyden, His brother Samuel and his wife Karen of Northampton and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his brothers George Jr and Richard.
A graveside service with Military Honors will be held Wednesday July 29 at 11 AM in the West Farms Cemetery, W. Farms Rd., Florence. In keeping with Charlie’s wishes, guests are encouraged to attend in casual attire.
