Support divestment for human rights violations
I am a resident of Northampton and a Jewish grandmother. I lost two of my own Jewish grandparents in the Holocaust. I do not believe that investing funds in institutions or organizations which engage in human rights violations makes anyone safer. Not me, not my children, not my grandchildren and not my neighbors in western Massachusetts.
When the city of Northampton invests its holdings, human rights violators should be off limits. The unanimous approval by Northampton City Councilors calling for divestment from human rights violators, present or future, provides a useful guideline, protective of peaceful policies and equal rights. I support the intervenors who reject the attempt to block that wise guideline.
