Southampton, MA – Richard A. Lohr, age 85, passed away at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by his loving family on July 29th, 2026. He was born in Springfield MA on August 11th, 1940. He was the son of Marschall and Elvie Lohr.
Richard co-owned and operated Ct. Valley Biological Supply Company, a family business, for 54 years. Richard had a lifelong love affair with nature and the outdoors. His passion for raising livestock and cultivating crops was evident from an early age. Richard continued this work raising animals and tending gardens, working the land alongside his loving wife Diana. He nurtured a love of nature and the outdoors in his children and grandchildren, teaching and inspiring them to be careful stewards of the land and to never underestimate the value of hard work and a job well done. Richard loved to cook, especially food he and his family had grown and raised. He was an early enthusiast of farm to table cuisine! Richard loved music, enjoyed a great movie and loved a good laugh. He was much loved, one of a kind and will be sorely missed.
He is predeceased by his eldest daughter Virginia L. Parsons. He is by survived his loving wife Diana, His daughters, Heather Lohr and her daughter Sydney Mark, Heidi Lohr, Katy Lohr and her son Jacob Lohr, Beth Guertin (née Lohr) and her husband Daniel and their children Benjamin, Olivia and Samuel and Sarah Lohr-Branley and her husband Kevin. Also, by his grandchildren, Sherri Harrison, Samantha Parsons and great granddaughter Carolyn Ribeiro. Richard is also survived by his sister, Diane Olechna and his brother Robert Lohr.
The family will hold calling hours at Mitchell Funeral Home on August 6 from 3-6 pm, with a memorial service from 6 – 7. A celebration of life will be held at a future date TBA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Chestnut Foundation. Mitchell Funeral home is handling the arrangements.
