- The Salt Box, a woman’s clothing store, is closing its store at 241 Main St. today. Stock from the Northampton store will be moved to the Salt Box at 16 Main St. in Amherst. The Tree House, which sells children’s clothes, will move later this month to the store vacated by the Salt Box.
- To promote the city’s Industrial park, which has been virtually vacant for almost four years, the Northampton Redevelopment Authority will spend nearly half its $40,760 budget this year for advertising, it was revealed at an NRA meeting last night. Some $16,500 will be spent this year on advertising the 88-acre park near Interstate 91 and Damon Road.

- A Smith College coach plans to bicycle 192 miles in the Pan-Massachusetts Challenge this weekend to raise money for cancer research. Bonnie May, 46, of Northampton will participate in a two-day bike ride from Sturbridge to Provincetown as part of a fundraiser for the Jimmy Fund at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.
- Dorothy Russell, a lifelong Hadley resident, was remembered for her work as a schoolteacher, historian and church member, at a memorial service Friday in Hadley. She died Tuesday at the age of 88. She lived her entire life in the River Road home in which she was born.

- Voters will head to the polls Thursday for the final round of a special election to fill an empty City Council seat in Northampton. Candidates Ryan O’Donnell and Marlene A. Morin are vying for the at-large seat vacated abruptly by Jesse Adams in May.
- Amherst’s superintendent wants out — and will leave her position if the Amherst-Pelham Regional and Union 26 school committees approve a financial agreement in executive session Tuesday. The separation package calls for Maria Geryk, who has been superintendent since 2012 and has a contract that runs through June 30, 2018, to be paid one and half years of salary and benefits.
