Sunderland, MA – Lenore “Leni” Bowen, 85, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love of her family, on Thursday, July 23, 2026, just one day after her 85th birthday.
Lenore was born on July 22, 1941, in Holyoke, Massachusetts, to the late Francis Vogel and Adele Tipton. She graduated from Holyoke High School and went on to work at Westover Air Force Base and Hampshire College, where she retired after many years of dedicated service.
Lenore married her high school sweetheart, Clifford “Kip” Bowen. They shared 60 wonderful years of marriage before Kip’s passing in February 2022.
Leni had a deep love of travel and adventure. She enjoyed exploring beautiful places around the world, including Italy, France, and Egypt, and treasured family vacations in Maine, Cape Cod, Hilton Head Island, and Florida. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family and friends and created countless memories that will continue to live on through her family.
She will be deeply missed by her children, Laura B. Amedeo (David), Clifford Bowen III (Elizabeth), and Amy Bowen-Klemyk (Jay); her grandchildren, Mathew Frazier (Kelley), Madison Bowen, and Tori Bowen; her great-grandchildren, Patrick and Piper Frazier; her sisters, Elaine Geick and Beverly Bitler; and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. David Serlin of Cooley Dickinson Pulmonology, Dr. Allyson Bloom of Mass General Brigham, and all of the doctors and nurses of the Critical Care Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital for the compassionate care they provided to Lenore throughout her illness.
Leni’s warmth, strength, adventurous spirit, and love for her family will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered.
In honor of Lenore, memorial donations may be made in her name to Hospice of the Fisher Home in recognition of the exceptional care, kindness, and comfort they provided to Lenore and her family during her final days.
