Food is a human necessity. Every single person on the planet needs food in order to survive. However, due rising grocery prices and cuts to food assistance programs such as SNAP, more people are experiencing food insecurity throughout the country. More than 3.5 million people have lost access to the food assistance that SNAP provides due to states implementing new eligibility requirements and stricter application processes. These food assistance programs make it possible for people to buy groceries and feed their families, which has become increasingly difficult with the rise seen in grocery store prices.

According to Feeding America, in the United States, annually, 48 million people, including 14 million children, do not know where their next meal will come from. These children are not able to focus on their education due to having to worry about food and having to go to sleep hungry. Nobody should have to go to sleep hungry. Every human being deserves food.
The people experiencing this are our neighbors and the people in our community. I believe we should do what we can to help. Although we can’t help every single person experiencing food insecurity, we can donate to food banks. One food item donated today can mean a meal for someone tomorrow.
