I’m writing to share my appreciation for the recent Millside Summer Series held at Millside Park in Easthampton June 19-29. The event was an undeniable success, not just for those who attended, but for the local businesses and workers who make up the fabric of our community.
At New City Brewery, we saw a remarkable 75% increase in taproom business compared to the same period in 2025. That surge wasn’t just a financial boost; it directly benefited our employees, the majority of whom live right here in Easthampton. They felt the excitement, the energy and the pride of seeing their hometown come alive.
But what meant the most to me wasn’t the business uptick, it was the people. Our taproom was filled with faces we’d never seen before. Families came in after enjoying the World Cup watch party, the live music, the USA250 programming and the incredible laser show. They walked from the park to our doors, and to restaurants and shops throughout Easthampton.
There was a genuine sense of community, people gathering in a safe, welcoming space, celebrating summer together.
I understand this event did not initially receive full support from the City Council. That’s exactly why I want to acknowledge just how successful it truly was. It showcased local musicians, food trucks and vendors, and it didn’t cost taxpayers a dime.
Even better, some of the grant funding used for the series has left lasting improvements to Millside Park’s infrastructure, which is a benefit the community will enjoy long after the music fades.
I want to thank Mayor Salem Derby and everyone involved in bringing this event to life. Their work created something special for Easthampton. Let’s do this again — and let’s do it often.
