Early primary voting has begun across the commonwealth. Here’s why we each of us needs to make our voice heard.
If you are a Democrat or Unenrolled: did you know Sen. Ed Markey has introduced 11 (eleven!) bills to curb AI abuses? His “AI accountability agenda” aims to curb datacenters, automated hiring systems, and harm to children. He’s even gotten Sen. Ted Cruz, of all people, to co-sponsor his bill protecting children from AI abuses — and that bill passed. Sen. Markey’s goal: our “taking power back from big tech.” If you agree, get out and vote in this key primary race.
If you live in the 1st Congressional District, you are blessed with the opportunity to replace Congressman Richard Neal, who for too many years has ignored the voices of his constituents, with Jeromie Whalen, a smart and savvy teacher who asks for the chance to advance democracy: “The simplest way to push back on Citizens United and the money machine is to vote against it and invest in real change.”
Need another reason to vote in this primary? Women and Black people fought long and hard, and at great cost, to enshrine their right to vote. Those battles should never have been necessary, of course. But they were, and we the people won. Our right to vote is at risk again.
In a year when those in power are tossing voters off the rolls, and trying to suppress the votes of women (SAVE America bill) and Black people (SCOTUS’ Callais decision), each one of our votes affirms: not on our watch.
