Paul Sise, who owns and operates the Pioneer Valley Fencing Academy in Easthampton, was one of two recipients of the Award of Merit For Outstanding Achievement in the Coaching and Teaching of Fencing by the U.S. Fencing Coaches Association, this past weekend.
Sise is a certified Fencing Master and also coaches the sport at Amherst College as well as Northampton High School.
“I am truly honored to be receiving this award that has been given to me by my colleagues, who are themselves dedicated mentors, indomitable Olympians, caring educators, and good friends,” Sise said in a media release.
The award recognized Sise for his development of the sport, his time as a trainer for other coaches, plus his academic contributions, which includes a pair of published books.
Northampton Parks & Rec softball
The Northampton Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting teams for their men’s and coed fall softball leagues. The deadline for all fees, rosters and a signed player conduct form is Thursday, Sept. 3 by 4 p.m.
Teams in each league will play a 10-12 game regular season schedule followed by playoffs. League play starts after Labor Day and will continue through early November.
