The Larkin Gallery hosts solo exhibition of Easthampton-based artist John Andert
The Larkin Gallery in Provincetown has welcomed back Easthampton-based artist John Andert for his solo exhibition, “In Plain Sight,” opening Friday, Aug. 28 at 6 p.m. and running through Sept. 9. Located at 405 Commercial St., the exhibition features a compelling collection of emotionally rich, multi-medium portraits and character studies that explore a deep array of human quirks and vulnerabilities. Andert, a longtime former Provincetown resident, theater professional and creator of the town’s long-running “Washashores” comic strip, brings this new body of work from his current studio at One Cottage Street in Easthampton. Springfield Museums hosts free Latino Arts Festival
The Springfield Museums, in partnership with the Mi Museo Committee, invites the community to celebrate the richness and diversity of Latino arts and culture at the fourth annual Latino Arts Festival on Friday, Aug. 28. The free festival features a special afternoon lecture followed by an evening celebration with live music, art, family activities and gallery experiences.
The Festival begins at 3:30 p.m. with a featured lecture by Ariana A. Curtis, Ph.D., curator of Latinx Studies at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. Born and raised in western Massachusetts, Curtis returns home for her first public lecture in the region, “From 413 to DC: Springfield’s Influence on Latinx Stories at the Smithsonian.” She will discuss how growing up in the Springfield area shaped her curatorial work and continues to influence Latinx representation at the Smithsonian and beyond. June Millington and IMA All-Stars headline double-album release concert in Goshen
The Institute for the Musical Arts in Goshen will hosts a career retrospective and double-album release party for rock pioneer June Millington on Saturday, Aug. 29 at 7:30 p.m. inside IMA’s Big Barn. The concert celebrates the simultaneous release of a newly mastered reissue of Millington’s debut solo album, “Heartsong,” alongside her latest studio album, “Home to My Soul.” Performing with the IMA All-Stars — a group of faculty, alumni and summer students — the co-founder of the legendary 1970s all-female rock band Fanny will be joined by Kenyan singer-songwriter and activist Lydiah Dola, who is concluding her fourth summer residency at IMA to build a future “IMA Kenya” initiative. Wistariahurst Museum opens new permanent exhibit
A new permanent exhibit is opening at Wistariahurst Museum. On Aug. 29, from noon to 2 p.m., the museum will host an afternoon of learning and activities at the opening event for the Skinner Servants’ Room exhibit. Visitors can explore the interactive exhibit, meet Skinner servants portrayed by museum volunteers and take photos in front of a Model T car. The Skinner Servants’ Room puts guests in the servants’ shoes as they learn what life was like for working-class people living in Holyoke. Visitors can perform some of the servants’ tasks, learn about their daily lives and dress up for their first shift as a Skinner servant.

William Baczek Fire Arts to present ‘Animal Kingdom’
William Baczek Fine Arts, 36 Main St., Northampton, will present “Animal Kingdom,” a multimedia group exhibition exploring the complex relationship between humans and animals, from Sept. 2 through Oct. 17. The exhibition features 14 emerging and established artists from the United States and Europe working across painting, sculpture, photography and other media. A.P.E. introduces masked gallery hours
To accommodate community members who are immunocompromised or feel most comfortable in masked settings, A.P.E. is introducing masked hours at its Northampton gallery at 126 Main St. Gallery during the month of September. Masked gallery hours will be Wednesdays and Saturdays from noon to 5 p.m. during its exhibition “After Eden // My Berlin Wall.” All visitors will be asked to wear masks, with KN95 masks available at the door. A.P.E. presents ‘SIX SEVVUHNN’ at Split Level Gallery
A.P.E. Ltd. Gallery will present “SIX SEVVUHNN,” a mixed-media exhibition by visual artists Ethel Poindexter and Lora Talbot, opening Sept. 2 in the Split Level Gallery at 33 Hawley St. in Northampton.
An opening reception will be held during Arts Night Out on Friday, Sept. 11, from 5 to 8 p.m. The exhibition pairs Poindexter’s relief sculptures with Talbot’s abstract paintings, exploring identity, resilience and the challenges of living authentically through contrasting artistic approaches.
