There has been a lot of kerfuffle lately about using agricultural land — present or potential — for solar installations. So it’s refreshing to see that there is no either-or here. We can harvest both solar energy and crops on the same land.
Replacing fossil-fuel energy with solar or wind is absolutely critical if we are to avoid the worst of climate change. We are already in deep climate trouble, but every tenth of a degree makes a difference, and even slowing the increase in temperature will give us, and the ecosystem, time to adapt. More solar is a must, and roofs and parking lots will not be adequate to provide what we need. So bravo for the farmers who are piloting agrivoltaics!
