Amherst, MA – Arthur Hilary Warren, born November 5, 1934, passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on August 21, 2026. Arthur grew up in Amherst, son of the late Arthur and Madalyn (Howes) Warren.
He married his first wife, Myra (Wotton) Warren, in 1958, and together they raised five daughters: Kimberly Drake, Elizabeth Downie, Deborah Matuszko, Amy Hoey, and Hilary Whitlock. His daughters were the pride and joy of his life. Later, he shared his life with his late wife, Marion Lapham. Marion passed away in July 2024.
Arthur is survived by his daughters, as well as his sisters, Patricia Begos and Rita Laughnane and his brother James Warren. He was predeceased by his brothers Stephen, Michael and Roy as well as his sisters, Jean Kirejczyk, Joanne Cole, Marilyn Niquette and Kathleen Ursia.
Arthur was a proud United States Marine who joined the service at age 16 and served for four years with courage and distinction.
Arthur began his career in the restaurant business, where he developed a lifelong passion for hospitality, teamwork, and great food. His talent and leadership led him to the University of Massachusetts Amherst, where he served as Director of Food Services. There, he played a key role in shaping one of the country’s most respected collegiate dining programs, earning the admiration of colleagues and students alike.
His dedication and expertise also took him into the world of professional sports, where he worked with three NFL teams: the New York Giants, the New England Patriots, and the Green Bay Packers. Arthur was known for his exceptional skill in managing food service operations for teams on the road and during training camps, contributing greatly to their success and morale.
Those who knew Arthur will remember his strong work ethic, steady humor, and deep sense of loyalty. Arthur lived a rich and purposeful life filled with hard work, devotion, and love for those around him. He was a mentor and a friend who led by quiet example and took great pride in the accomplishments of those around him.
A graveside service will be held Friday, September 4, 2026 at 11:00am in South Amherst Cemetery, 1205 South East Street, Amherst.
