In Jim Bridgman”s “A Look Back” column on Sept. 1 was a headline from 50 years ago. It stated that a fifth defendant in two days was arrested for drinking in Pulaski Park. The judge vowed to levy the maximum fine of $50.00 on any defendant found guilty. The judge also stated that “we aren’t going to let these punks take over the park.”
Here’s how it would go down today!
The judge would be reprimanded for the comment.
The arresting officer would be placed on probation.
The defendant would sue the city.
The city would settle out of court.
The taxpayers would pay.
I sure miss the good old days!
