The second annual Amherst Invitational, a collegiate badminton tournament, will return to the Pioneer Valley on Saturday, Oct. 10 .
Co-hosted by UMass and Amherst College, the tournament expects to welcome more than 100 players to Amherst. Last year’s event featured teams from Yale, Brown, Williams and Boston College.
Prizes and raffles will be awarded throughout the tournament, which is completely student-run by UMass and Amherst College students.
Northampton Parks & Rec
The Northampton Parks & Recreation Department is collaborating with Northampton Police Department, Easthampton Fire Department, Easthampton Police Department, Massachusetts State Police, Northwestern District Attorneys’ Office, the Children’s Advocacy Center of Hampshire County and Easthampton Parks & Recreation to bring Unity Basketball to Northampton and Easthampton this fall.
Four Unity Basketball Community Nights, two at JFK Middle School, and two at Williston School Gym, will take place.
Unity Basketball will be held four Monday evenings on Sept. 14, Sept. 21, Sept. 28 and Oct. 5 from 6 – 8 p.m. and is designed for children in grades 5-8. Each evening will feature skills sessions, guest speakers, music, pick-up games and pizza.
These events are free with the goal of encouraging communication between young people and community responders in a fun, competitive setting. Pre-registration is highly encouraged to attend and can be completed online at www.northamptonma.gov/recreation.
