I have lived in Northampton for more than 40 years, and love the general friendliness and consideration people show each other here. During this time, there has been a steady increase in the number of four-way stop signs, and my understanding is that they have been associated with a decreased number of accidents.

This despite the fact that there has never (to my awareness) been a concerted effort to educate the public about the rules of behavior at these intersections. I have been aware of numerous occasions in which cars enter the intersection out of turn, and I assume that often it is because they honestly think it is their turn.

I would request that the public safety authorities institute an educational outreach to remedy this situation before an accident occurs.
