Here is a tip of the hat to Marc Warner’s Sept. 14 guest column “The case against legacy party partisanship.” I admire this commentary for being plainspoken and full of wisdom. There are many threats to our democracy, but surely of them the inability of elected officials to take up real work on behalf of all Americans has to be near the top of the list.
I don’t anticipate any genuine efforts by Republicans until Donald Trump is in the rearview mirror. I am hopeful (probably naive) that Democrats will choose to govern, rather than posture, if they are successful in the midterms. One can only hope that there will be some core group of members, in that new Congress, who are willing to act in favor of our collective good rather than spend the next two years placating adherents.
