South Hadley, MA – Mary Jo Maydew, 77, passed away on September 9th, 2026, after managing stage 4 breast cancer for 24 years.
Born May 13, 1949, in Kansas City, MO, to Bernard (Gene) Eugene and Thelma Louise (Beardslee) Maydew.
She earned her BSBA from the University of Denver and her MBA from Cornell University. Mary Jo devoted 25 years to Mount Holyoke College as Treasurer and Vice President for Finance and Administration. She served on numerous non-profit boards, including the New England Commission of Higher Education. In her professional and personal life she was respected as a deeply thoughtful advisor, mentor, and friend.
She is survived by her husband, Michael A. Crowley; children Carolyn Crowley McClenahan (Erik) and John Crowley (Rachana); grandchildren Samantha McClenahan, Anderson McClenahan, Jaya Crowley, and Mira Crowley; siblings Thomas (Georgia), James (Audrey), and Linda Maydew; niece Jennifer Leggett; nephews Nicholas (Amanda Hitpas) Maydew and Tyler (Cassie) Maydew; and great-nieces Lauren Leggett and Daphne Maydew.
Per her wishes, there will be no services or calling hours.
