South Hadley, MA – Jonathan W. Bemben of South Hadley passed away at home September 8th, 2026.
Born December 24th, 1975, Jonathan was raised in Hadley, Massachusetts. Like most teenagers in a small farming town, he grew up in the fields and learned the value of working hard and taking pride in what you have accomplished. Jon graduated from Hopkins Academy with the Class of 1994 and earned an associate’s degree at Holyoke Community College in 1998. After pursuing various career paths that offered little satisfaction, he took a training course in Automotive Technology at Porter & Chester Institute and became an ASE certified mechanic under the guidance of his favorite teacher, Mr. A. He proudly followed in the footsteps of the two people he most admired in his life, his father, and his father’s best friend, Tom Kusek.
Besides his deep love of old westerns and British comedy, two of Jonathan’s greatest passions in life were martial arts and cooking. He was a longtime member of the Kicks and Sticks Filipino Martial Arts Studio. He achieved excellence in martial arts and was a patient teacher to the younger generations. He was proud of his cooking abilities and leaves behind a legacy of unforgettable meals he enjoyed preparing for his work colleagues.
Jon will be fondly remembered as an expert storyteller with devastating wit and fierce intensity, and as a man who genuinely believed a splash of whiskey could cure anything from a broken bone to a bad mood.
He is survived by his mother Donna Bartley, his father John Bemben, and his stepmother Ilona Trousdale, along with his sister Jennifer Bemben; brother Jesse Bemben and his wife Moriah Wright; sister Josette Bartley; brother Jordan Bartley as well as his nieces and nephews Tristan Seay, Brendan Seay, and Annika Bemben; and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Despite Jonathan’s resistance to most conventions, he always wanted the best for the people around him and would stick up for the ones he loved. Everyone who remembers him is asked to celebrate Jonathan in their own way. Raising a glass of their favorite drink in his memory would be quite appropriate, as would be cooking a nice dinner in his honor, or watching and reciting Monty Python or any old timey western or action movie in his memory.

There will be no calling hours. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
