In 1959, Dick married Reta Schoonmaker. He built a successful career in corporate finance, retiring as Vice President of Administration at The Hartford Courant before leading the Connecticut Daily Newspaper Association.
Always seeking to “put in more than I take out,” Dick was a lifelong blood donor, and dedicated decades to community service, including leadership roles with the Connecticut Audubon Society and local Episcopal parishes. An avid sailor and birder, he cherished life on the water.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 67 years, Reta; children Whitney (Jan), Rick (Peter), and Nanci (Michael); six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life will take place at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Holden, MA. A live stream of the service will be available at https://www.facebook.com/stfrancisholden/live_videos/
Memorial donations may be made to Connecticut Audubon, the Falmouth Historical Society, the Maine Maritime Museum, the charity of your choice, or donate blood.
