After falling short of a state title last season, the Smith Vocational girls volleyball team looks like it’s on another mission this fall. The squad dropped its first match of the season but has built up a winning streak since then.
The Vikings made Franklin Tech its latest victim with a 3-1 set victory on Monday for their fifth win in a row.
Smith Voc had contribution all through the rotation. Irelyn Marcoux had a strong two-way game with 12 kills and 13 digs.
Things started slow for the Vikings as they dropped their first set 25-23. They had not lost a set in their previous four matches.
The team quickly rebounded with convincing scores for the rest of the match: 25-20, 25-17, and 25-19.
Hecmarie Diaz-Lopez continues to be active on defense with 36 digs. The junior is now within 100 digs of 1,000 for her career. On offense she had four aces, four assists, and a kill.
Setter Ainsley Charznowski had 19 assists and eight digs.
Leah Franklin’s serves were on point as she tallied seven aces. She played a big role on defense has well with 14 digs.
Front-row players Jocelyn Ayala and Edna Cruz combined for nine kills and three blocks.
The Vikings are in a similar position as they were last season. In 2025, the team began 5-1 with its only loss at that point to Renaissance.
The team heads to Southwick on Wednesday for a matchup against the 2-7 Rams.
Boys soccer
Holyoke 4, Ware 2 — The Knights pulled out a big win at home over Ware. Holyoke has won two of its last three games.
Despite scoring more than one goal for the first time this season, Ware falls to 0-6.
Girls soccer
South Hadley 2, Ludlow 2 — Three days after a high-stakes win over Belchertown, the Tigers picked up a tie against another strong team in Ludlow.
It is the third tie for South Hadley in its last four games. It’s record is now 3-1-3.
Volleyball
Ludlow 3, Easthampton 1 — The Eagles came close to forcing a fifth set, but after dropping the fourth set 26-24, took their third consecutive loss.
Camilla Corsello and Kathryn Koval each had five kills for Easthampton. Eliza Scott-Smith added three kills to go along with 10 digs.
Brooke Skowron and Kaylin Dumas led the team on defense with 11 digs each. Dumas tallied four kills while Skowron had 14 assists.
Amherst 3, Westfield 0 — The Hurricanes swept an opponent for the sixth time this season. Amherst took down Westfield by set scores of 25-11, 25-21, and 25-19. It improves its record to 8-1.
Holyoke 3, South Hadley 1 — The Knights picked up their third win in their last five matches over the Tigers. Holyoke improves its record to 3-5.
The loss snaps a four-match win streak for South Hadley, who drops to 6-2 on the year.

Girls volleyball
Amherst 3, Wahconah 0 — The Hurricanes registered their second sweep of the week in the victory against the Warriors on Saturday.
Amherst notched set wins with scores of 25-20, 25-12 and 25-18.
South Hadley 3, SICS 1 — Maya Thielen (seven kills) and Vivian Marion (seven aces) catapulted the Tigers to victory last Thursday.
Set scores were 23-25, 25-20, 25-18 and 25-7.
Chicopee Comp 3, Holyoke 0 — Kelcy Brunelle’s seven kills weren’t enough for the Purple Knights in the shutout against the Colts last Thursday.
Girls soccer
Granby 2, Hampshire 0 — Margo Healy netted both Rams’ goals in the shutout victory over the Raiders on Friday.
Kalli White picked up assists on both strikes while Granby goalie Meredith Bartosz racked up 12 saves.
Karaghan Rogalski and Emilia Berrena each made three saves in net for Hampshire.
