The Amherst field hockey team posted its first shutout of the season in its 2-0 win over Palmer on Friday night.
Hurricanes goalie Kayla Kim needed just two saves to record the clean sheet.
Sophia Soares and Mariah Gocerski scored for Amherst, which improved to 2-6-1 following the victory.
The ‘Canes extended Palmer’s winless streak to seven.
Hampshire 0, Mohawk 0 — A combined shutout from Grace Layman and Sarah Zajac highlighted the draw for the Raiders.
Layman finished with two saves while Zajac notched six.
Girls soccer
Holyoke 7, Greenfield 4 — Kyra Lippman was unstoppable for the Purple Knights, tallying all seven goals in the win against the Green Wave.
Leilany Figueroa factored in with five assists for Holyoke, while Jennaya Torres totaled five saves in net.
Smith Voc 4, Central 0 — The Vikings made quick work of the Golden Eagles, earning a shutout for the second game in a row.
Julianis Suarez led all Smith Voc players in points with a goal and assist, while Isabelle Letourneau, Savannah Fredette and Erin Miller also found the back of the net.
The Vikings improved to 7-0.
Hopkins 1, Easthampton 1 — Both goals occurred in the second half of Friday’s Pioneer North clash.
Ephie Vissas slotted the Golden Hawks’ goal while Noey Ryan recorded the Eagles’ strike.
These two teams played earlier this season, a game Hopkins won 5-4, after trailing 4-1 at one point.
Amherst 2, West Springfield 1 — The ‘Canes received goals from Nora Hanna and Sophia Ameen McCabe to capture their fourth consecutive win.
Aliya Morales-Fernandez was busy between the pipes for Amherst, concluding with 15 saves.
Boys soccer
South Hadley 4, Franklin Tech 2 — The Tigers took down the Eagles to claim their third straight win.
Brandon Bregu scored twice to pace South Hadley’s offense, while Spencer Parsons and Chris Sotiropoulos punched in goals too.
Tigers goalie Xzavies Rosario made seven saves to pick up the win.
Smith Voc 1, Commerce 1 — Josh Cole provided the Vikings’ lone goal in its tie.
Smith Voc has now tied two separate teams this season following its 2-2 draw with Holyoke on Sept. 18.
Girls volleyball
Amherst 3, Agawam 0 — The Hurricanes matched their season-best win streak in the sweep against the Brownies.
Amherst has now won five straight games twice this season.
Set scores against Agawam came in at 25-17, 25-16, 25-22.
Putnam 3, Easthampton 0 — The Eagles suffered their fourth consecutive loss, despite seven kills from Camilla Corsello.
Brooke Skowron (nine assists) and Summer Routhier (12 digs) were involved for Easthampton.
Golf
West Springfield 167, Amherst 183, Southwick 190 — The Hurricanes grabbed their first win of the season in the tri-match at Amherst Golf Club.
Amherst is now 1-9.
Easthampton 155, South Hadley 202 — Co-medalist honors from the Eagles’ Tanner Kmetz and Jacob Murrett (37) powered the hosts to victory at Wyckoff Country Cub.
Angelo Torchia (40) and Amelia Gruber (41) rounded out Easthampton’s team score, while Ryley McMahon (42), Richie Brown (52), Mason Peters (53) and Colin MacGregor (54) served as the Tigers’ top four.
