The Amherst girls volleyball team picked up an impressive 3-1 road victory over Frontier on Tuesday night to improve to 11-1 on the season.

The Hurricanes, who have now won six straight matches, won by set scores of 25-18, 25-20, 21-25, and 25-9 against the Redhawks.

Amherst sits in second place in the Northern league standings, behind Longmeadow, the only team that has beaten the ‘Canes this season.

Belchertown 3, Easthampton 1 — After dropping the first set, the Orioles roared back to win the next three and seal the victory over the Eagles.

Set scores read 27-29, 25-23, 25-16, 25-22 in favor of Belchertown.

Cassidy MacLean (12 kills), Olivia Skora (30 assists) and Kaiya Cavanaugh (34 digs) guided the O’s to win No. 5 on the season.

Kathryn Koval and Camilla Corsello each posted seven kills for Easthampton in the defeat.

PVCA 3, South Hadley 2 — The Tigers lost a back-and-forth battle with the Eagles.

Grace Matyszewski (11 kills, 29 digs) and Maya Lamirande (16 assists) were involved on the court for South Hadley.

Set scores came in at 25-16, 25-27, 25-17, 22-25, 11-15 in favor of PVCA.

Franklin Tech 3, Holyoke 1 — The Purple Knights took their second straight loss, despite strong performances from Tatiana Gonzalez and Roxangely Maldonado Rivera.

Gonzalez led the team in digs with 19, while Maldonado Rivera concluded with the most kills with nine.

Field hockey

Smith Academy 2, Mohawk 0 — The Falcons’ defense shined in the shutout win over the Warriors.

Sofia Robinson, Kaleigh Fallon, Maggie Moynihan, Chloe Avery, and Gianna Morales were part of Smith Academy’s defensive unit that didn’t surrender a shot on goal.

Sophia Jagodzinski (goal, assist) and Shae Moulton (goal) provided the offense for the Falcons.

Northampton 1, Hampshire 1 — The Blue Devils put an end to their losing streak in the draw with the Raiders.

Madeline Abraham netted Northampton’s goal, its first of the season, while Lily Connor scored for Hampshire.

Goalies Abby Xu and Solange Loomis combined for five saves for the Blue Devils, while Grace Layman totaled two saves for the Raiders.

Boys soccer

Belchertown 2, Pope Francis 0 — Goals from Adam Stahl and William Verrochi Jr. powered the Orioles past the Cardinals.

Belchertown goalie Andrew Lambert earned the clean sheet with five saves.

Girls soccer

Hopkins 7, Holyoke 0 — The Golden Hawks eased past the Purple Knights in the shutout victory.

Ephie Vissas (two goals, three assists) led the Hopkins attack while Morgan Augustin, Olivia Earle and Bridget Benoit also managed multi-point efforts.

The Hawks moved to 9-0-1.

Smith Voc 6, McCann Tech 0 — The Vikings potted three goals in each half to cruise past the Hornets.

Erin Miller (two), Julianis Suarez (two), Savannah Fredette and Isabella Letourneau provided the offense.

Smith Voc improved to 8-0.

Cross Country

Frontier 15, Granby 50 (boys)
Frontier 15, Granby 50 (girls) —
The Redhawks raced past the Rams on Tuesday, sweeping both races.

Both squads competed on a 2.75-mile course.

Gateway 26, Mohawk 33
Gateway 15, McCann 50 (girls) —
The Gators won the tri-meet at the Littleville Dam 5K course in Huntington.

Mohawk’s Virginia Krezmian won the girls race in 21 minutes, 30 seconds, however Gateway had the next two finishers as Ava Christie (23:47) and Anya Niles (23:53) nabbed second and third place, respectively.

The Vikings came up short in both races during the home tri-meet.

Smith Voc’s boys team had not lost prior to Tuesday’s meet.

The Dragons put together an impressive sweep during both races of the tri-meet at the Hadley Town Common course.

Astrid Knyt won the girls race (19:09) while Grafton Tolopko claimed first in the boys race (15:40).

PVCICS brought in the first eight finishers in the girls race and nine straight finishers in the boys race.

Golf

Belchertown 156, Amherst 165 — Three sub-40 rounds was the difference in the Orioles’ victory against the Hurricanes.

Luke Heroux (37), Andrew Wright (38), Wesley Hill (39) and William Mitus (42) factored into Belchertown’s team score.

Amherst hung in there with Graham Van Geissen (40), Gavin Duncan (40), Sawyer Ferro (41) and Sage Sproehlne (44) making up its overall score.

Hampshire 160, Ludlow 167 — The Raiders edged the Lions, thanks in large part to medalist Brayden Fennessy’s one-under par round of 34.

Scarlett Parent (40), Wes Adamski (42) and Declan Butler/Nico Johnson (44) stepped up for Hampshire as well in the victory at Blandford Country Club.

Smith Voc 154, Athol 192 — Pat Dabrowski’s even-par round of 34 led the Vikings past the Bears at Wyckoff Country Club.

Keller McMahon (39), Nate Lindahl (40) and Andrew Persaud (41) followed for Smith Voc in the win.

East Longmeadow 161, South Hadley 187 — The Tigers dropped their fourth straight match in the loss to the Spartans at Ledges Golf Course.

Late Monday Results

Girls soccer

South Hadley 7, Chicopee Comp 2 — Three points from Hannah Haesaert (hat trick) and Cara Dean (goal, two assists) carried the Tigers past the Colts.

Natalie Rios and Kelcey Zraunig also scored for South Hadley, while Olivia Athas and Regan Masse combined for six saves.

Each team allowed an own goal.
