Carol Hyde

Northampton, MA – It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Carol Hyde, former owner of Pearl Street Nightclub, on April 16, 2026. Carol passed after a long struggle with heart disease. She will be remembered as a dynamic person who fought hard to make her dreams reality and above all else loved nature and her family and friends.

Born in Garden City, New York, Carol’s sense of adventure started in her teenage years when she would regularly sneak into Greenwich Village to hear folk music in the early days of Dylan and Van Ronk. As a young single mother she moved from Boston (where she had lived in a commune with her son, Brem) to Ashfield where her deep connection to nature was fulfilled. She would sit on the front stoop of her beloved Brier Hill home eating breakfast looking out over the mountains – this was her bliss. Her adventurous nature continued years later when she developed the former White Eagle Hall on Pearl Street in Northampton into a nightclub which featured legendary performers such as James Brown and Ray Charles and many others too numerous to list. Pearl Street Nightclub put Northampton on the map culturally and was a labor of love for Carol as well as a herculean challenge. Her next chapter was moving to Martha’s Vineyard where she could have her ocean walks and swims. She had winters in Sarasota.

Everywhere she went she made good friends and deep connections. She loved to have parties and dinners, play Mah Jongg and go to the ballet. She also had a deep connection to social justice and progressive causes, to which she donated generously, and loathed Trumpism.

Carol loved her dogs deeply and was never seen more heartbroken than when her dog Dragon died at 17.

She was close to her sisters, Barbara Jackson and Rosemary Ducey and mourned the early loss of her beloved sidekick and partner in crime, her brother Louis Anziano. She also leaves a son, Brem Hyde, of Boston.

Please contact Brem at (917)578-4830 for memorial information and leave a message. Charitable donations can be made in her name to the MSPCA.
