The mayor who cried wolf

Months ago, I signed up for the Red Alert. Foolishly I thought if there was a tornado, or hurricane or some other weather or dangerous event, I would get a “Red Alert” call.

On Aug. 18, I got the first one. It was the mayor of Northampton announcing the Transformance. I called her office wondering why the alert system was being used for this. They told me the mayor wanted to let people know so more could attend.

On Friday, Sept. 19, the alert sounded again. From the mayor again, although I couldn’t actually hear the message. I called her office the following Monday to find out what the alert was. (Whatever it was had passed.) This time the mayor’s “Red Alert” was for Flo Fest.

Nice to know, but not an emergency.
