The UMass football team suffered its fourth straight loss in a 35-16 defeat to UConn at Rentschler Field on Friday.

The Minutemen got on the board first with a 24-yard field goal from Derek Morris at 7:07 of the first quarter, but the Huskies scored four consecutive touchdowns to lead 28-3 heading into the fourth quarter.

Quarterback William “Pop” Watson III returned to the gridiron on Friday after missing the previous two games with an injury, but wasn’t sharp for the Minutemen, finishing with 205 yards through the air along with one touchdown while going 22-for-38.

UMass concluded with more passing yards than UConn (250-173 yards), but the Huskies held the heavy advantage on the ground with 265 yards earned to the Minutemen’s 53.

UConn quarterback Kalieb Osborne went 14-for-19 for 173 yards and two touchdowns.

The Minutemen will get a week off before their next game, a home contest versus Ball State on Nov. 4.
