SOUTH DEERFIELD — Three people were brought to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after a rollover crash at the intersection of Conway Street and Routes 5 and 10 in South Deerfield Tuesday evening.

The two vehicles involved, a Honda Pilot and a Nissan Altima, collided around 5:15 p.m., leaving the Honda resting on its roof with airbags deployed. The Nissan sustained heavy front-end damage.

Deerfield Police Sgt. Harry Ruddock said the crash occurred when the Honda took a left turn off Route 116 into the path of the oncoming Nissan, causing the Honda to roll onto its roof after impact. Two adults and an 8-year-old child were taken to Baystate Franklin Medical Center in Greenfield.

“Everybody was seat-belted, which was a good thing,” Ruddock said. “That’s probably why there weren’t any serious injuries.”

Judy Chamberlin, whose 36-year-old daughter was driving the Honda, said she was leaving her granddaughter’s softball game at Frontier Regional School when she got stuck in traffic caused by the crash and realized the car on its roof was her daughter’s.

“I don’t know how she survived with no injuries, flipping over like that,” Chamberlin said, adding that her daughter was brought to the hospital as a precaution.

The Deerfield and Sunderland police departments, state police, South County EMS and South Deerfield Fire and Rescue responded to the scene, which was cleared just after 5:45 p.m.
