Our president may have been propelled to victory by the free publicity he was given during the last presidential campaign by the media, which televised and reported each of his raucous rallies that were laced with inflammatory rhetoric and hate-filled diatribes.
And I fear the media, for all its good intentions, may be giving the same preferential treatment to their favorite four contenders, whose resultant name-recognition has given them a huge advantage in polling results.
This concerns me for many reasons, the most significant of which is that the candidate whom I believe is best suited to bring a three-pronged victory to Democrats in November is not given her fair share of media coverage — Sen. Amy Klobuchar.
The three prongs of her victory are: 1. The ability to defeat Mr. Trump; 2. the ability to revitalize a moribund Senate, by advocating for progressive legislation that has an actual chance of passage; and 3. the ability to bring healing to the corrosive divisiveness that threatens our nation under the shadow of the current president.
Sen. Klobuchar has almost 14 years of experience in the U.S. Senate, during which she displayed a successful bipartisan approach, which has won her a reputation for being able to “… disagree without being disagreeable,” an attribute far more likely to bring political factions together than the “in-your-face” style of her most prominent rivals.
In agreement with a pundit whose name I do not recall, I would vote for a tree stump rather than for Trump, but in the primary election I want to select the best person to run against the president. For all the reasons cited in the New York Times editorial board’s endorsement of both Sens. Klobuchar and Elizabeth Warren (Jan. 19, 2020), I believe that Klobuchar is the most deserving, best qualified of the Democratic contenders to be the next president, and the best equipped to bring Americans together again.
I urge you to vote for Amy Klobuchar in the March 3 primary election.
