■The Westhampton Congregational Church was filled almost to capacity for the service of Rededication and Homecoming Sunday. Also, approximately 125 people enjoyed the tour of historic homes offered on Sunday afternoon by members and friends of the church.

■The University of Massachusetts at Amherst will make university level study available to more people this fall with its first comprehensive program of evening classes on and off campus. The new UMass Division of Continuing Education will offer classes at Amherst and at four other locations in western Massachusetts.

■Saying he’s been urged by neighbors, a former city engineer is mounting a campaign to unseat Ward 7 City Councilor Maureen C. Tobin. Democrat George E. Quinn of Leeds said he would lobby for improvement to a couple of hazardous intersections and work for a greater presence of police patrolling on foot.

■After 20 years of grazing in the shadow of Mount Sugarloaf, the cows on the University of Massachusetts dairy farm will move to Hadley. Robert Helgesen, dean of the College of Food and Natural Resources, said today that the move was being made to consolidate its teaching facilities at the university’s Hadley farm.

■The University of Massachusetts Wind Energy Center has lost more than 80 percent of its state money in the last two years, leading to a reduction in the training and technical support the university offers. The budget cutbacks come at a time when Massachusetts is trying to provide a boost for its fledgling wind industry.

■Newbury Comics, the Boston-based music store chain that set up shop in Amherst in 1995, will shift that regional outlet to Northampton. The new store, scheduled to open in September, will take over the Pleasant Street space formerly occupied by Yes Computers, next to Service Net.
