AMHERST – UMass guards Jabarie Hinds and Trey Davis were honored by the Atlantic 10 and United States Basketball Writers Tuesday as the Minutemen prepared for the Atlantic 10 Tournament.

Hinds was named the Atlantic 10 co-Sixth Man of the Year after averaging 14.2 points per game. He came off the bench for 11 of 18 conference games, including 11 of the last 12. He shared the award with St. Bonaventure’s Denzel Gregg.

No other UMass player was included in any postseason awards.

Saint Joseph’s DeAndre Bembry, who averaged 17.0 points, 7.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game, was the league’s player of the year. His teammate Isaiah Miles was the Chris Daniels Award winner as the league’s most improved player after raising his averages to 18.0 points (from 10.7) and 8.1 rebounds (from 5.1 per game) per game.

Mark Schmidt was chosen as the league’s coach of the year after leading St. Bonaventure, which was picked eighth in the preseason poll, to a share of the regular season title with Dayton and VCU.

Fordham guard Joseph Chartouny, who led the league with 6.2 assists per game, was the A-10 Rookie of the Year, while Rhode Island’s Hassan Martin was the league’s defensive player of the year.

Davis was named to the USBWA’s All-District Team for District 1, which includes all of New England.

Providence’s Kris Dunn was named the District Player of the Year. Also on the all-district team were Jarvis Garrett and Jared Terrell (Rhode Island), Dunn and Ben Bentil, (Providence), Evan Boudreaux (Dartmouth), Cane Broome (Sacred Heart), Eric Fanning (Boston University), Daniel Hamilton (UConn) and David Walker (Northeastern).

James Jones, who led Yale to an Ivy League championship, was the district coach of the year.
