Conway’s David Fitch added national title No. 2 at the NCAA Division III swimming and diving championships, Friday.
The Kenyon sophomore touched the wall first in the men’s 100-yard backstroke, winning in 46.66 seconds. Fitch, a Williston Northampton graduate, also won the 100 butterfly Thursday night in record fashion.
Amherst College’s Lindsay Ruderman added her second diving national title, as well. She won on the 1-meter board with 493.75 points. She also captured the 3-meter championship earlier in the meet. Teammate Jacqueline Palermo finished seventh (429.05).
Belchertown graduate Sierra Skaza closed her Springfield College diving career in 11th (406.3).
The Mammoths’ men’s 800 freestyle relay team of Eric Wong, Ang Li, Tristan So and Charles Seltzer was eighth (6:40.32).
Amherst’s Sean Mebust placed 15th in the men’s 100 breaststroke (55.55).
Division I Women’s Championships — Northampton graduate Erin Voss took 14th in the 100 backstroke for Stanford, hitting the wall in 51.87 seconds.
Wisconsin’s Breata Nelson won the title in 49.18 and set an American record.
UMass 20, Davidson 9 — Cassidy Doster had five goals, while Kaitlyn Cerasi scored twice with three assists in a conference-opening win.
Haley Connaughton, Stephanie Croke and Hannah Palau all added two goals and an assist each for the Minutewomen (6-3, 1-0 A-10).
Emma Dotsikas and Kelly Marra each found the net twice. Gina Carroll stopped four shots to earn the win, while Lauren Hiller made three saves.
VCU 5, UMass 2 — Nolan Kessinger had two hits and drove in a run for the Minutemen (4-10, 0-1 A-10). Anthony Videtto hit an RBI single.
Amherst 5, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 4 — William Turchetta clinched the victory with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles for the Mammoths (7-2).
MIT 9, Mount Holyoke 0 — Catherine Peabody fared the best against the Engineers, losing 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles against Viktoriya Tabunshchyk. The loss ended a two-match win streak for the Lyons (7-6, 0-1 NEWMAC).
