A delivery vehicle left running outside a Main Street business was reported stolen at 9:58 p.m. Thursday, about 10 minutes after the employee parked it.
A woman in the hospital asked police to check on the well-being of her pet snake at her Village Park residence. Looking through the windows at 7:20 p.m. Thursday, officers observed the snake moving inside its cage, and the heat lamp to keep the snake comfortable was working properly.
Alexander Joaquin, 24, of Westfield, was arrested at 8:36 p.m. Wednesday after a traffic stop on Union Street on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with only a learner’s permit.
Sean Rose, 19, of 113 Sandy Hill Road in Florence, was arrested Saturday at 10:07 p.m. after allegedly rear-ending another vehicle at the intersection of Main and King streets. He was charged with operating under the influence of liquor (2nd offense) and failure to use caution in starting, stopping, turning or backing. Neither driver was injured.
John T. Roders, 45, of Palmer, was arrested just after 1 a.m. Saturday for disorderly conduct. Police responded to a call at the Millbank Condominiums, located at 18 Michelman Ave Apt. 4, and found a group of males at the scene. Police said Rodgers was walking up and down the street, yelling up at people on the second floor of the building challenging them to a fight. After being asked to leave several times by police and refusing to do so, Rodgers was arrested, police said.
Police responded to 35 Fruit St. Apt. 26A following a report of stolen money and prescription drugs at 10:26 p.m. Friday. According to police, a suspect known to the victim stole $200 and cash and prescription drugs. The incident is under investigation, police said.
Carlos Lara, 25, 48 School St., Apt. 1, was arrested just before 1 a.m. Friday at Hawley Street and Phillips Place on charges of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, possessing an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and driving without headlights. Police said Lara was pulled over when an officer noticed the he was driving without headlights. Lara was also driving with an open can of beer in his cup holder, but told the officer it was his first drink of the evening and that he was not under the influence. The officer found that Lara was not a licensed driver and that he was wanted on a warrant issued by Springfield District Court on a charge of unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
At about 6:30 p.m. Thursday, police responded to Big Y after staff reported they detained a woman who was caught attempting to shoplift. Police arrested Brianna Young, 22, of Spencer, on a charge of shoplifting. Young allegedly tried to conceal a bottle of coconut Ciroc vodka, Captain Morgan Cannon Blast rum and various chocolates — altogether valued at about $86, police said.
Her boyfriend, Douglas M. Belanger, 28, was outside the store at the time of Young’s arrest, according to police. Once he heard she had been caught, police said Belanger broke into Young’s car by breaking a back window with a screwdriver so that he could retrieve his backpack. Police encountered Belanger in the parking lot before he could leave and said he was also in possession of a bottle of Prosecco, which is valued at about $13. Police also found that he had acetaminophen with codeine for which he did not have a prescription. Belanger was charged with malicious damage to a motor vehicle, misdemeanor breaking and entering into a vehicle, shoplifting, possessing a Class C drug and possessing a burglary tool.
