At Amherst Town Hall

“East and West,” an exhibit of oil paintings by Kate Spenser of Montague, will be on view through Aug. 31 at the Amherst Town Hall. There will be a reception Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m.

Accused witch 

“Mary Bliss Parsons: Accused Witch of Northampton,” an exhibit by Susan Montgomery, will open with a reception Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. and will remain on view  through Aug. 7, at Historic Northampton, 46 Bridge St. in Northampton.

The exhibit explores accusations that Parsons, a member of one of the first families in 17th-century Northampton, was a witch. 

Montgomery’s selection of watercolor paintings are complemented by a sculpture installation and linocut print.

Gallery hours are Wednesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.

Painting outdoors

Northampton’s Arts Night Out presents “En Plein Air” Friday from 3-8 p.m. Ten artists will showcase their skills Friday, al fresco.

Jeffery Gatrall, Kathleen Hession and Elizabeth Lehman will be stationed at Forbes Library; Susan Barocas, David Brewster and Robert Markey, will be in front of Memorial Hall; Paula Gottlieb, Frank Gregory and Scott Prior will set up on the lawn in front of the Old Courthouse; and Elizabeth Stone will be painting portraits near the steps of City Hall.

“Light Through Color,” an exhibit of Lorna Ritz’s abstract impressionist-expressionist oil paintings, will be on view through July 31 in the Back Room of the Oxbow Gallery, 275 Pleasant St. in Northampton. There will be a reception Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. For information, visit www.oxbowgallery.org.
