EASTHAMPTON — The Williston Northampton School plans to demolish three buildings on Main Street to construct a new dormitory.

The homes on 196, 200 and 206 Main St. will be taken down. Construction is expected to begin this fall and will take about a year to complete, school spokeswoman Ann Hallock.

The school owns the buildings — one is unoccupied and the other two were housing faculty families. They will be relocated to other homes on campus during the project, Hallock said in an email.

She said the school is maintaining its current enrollment of 472 students, but a new housing facility will create more community space for students and faculty while also increasing the amount of faculty housing.

The project is part of the school’s strategic plan to develop a second residential quad that concentrates where students and faculty live on campus, Hallock said. The school’s two main dormitories are on Park Street.

The new dormitory will match the neighboring Victorian style building at 194 Main St., which was constructed in 2008. The school is working with Flansburgh Architects, which did the work on the neighboring building, and expects the new dorm to have a similar look and layout.
