SUNDERLAND — A collision badly damaged a silver Subaru that was involved in a three-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon on Route 116, but no one was seriously injured, Sunderland Police Chief Erik Demetropoulos said.
The police chief said a 10-wheel red dump truck with a flat tire was well off the highway, and a white service truck was parked 4 to 5 feet behind it when the Subaru struck the white service truck, sending it into the dump truck. The impact badly damaged the service truck and sheared off part of the body of the Subaru “like a can opener,” Demetropoulos said.
The Subaru traveled on a few hundred feet before the right front wheel fell off. The Subaru driver was examined at the scene by South County Emergency Medical Services of Deerfield, and was not seriously injured, according to Sunderland Police.
When their trucks were hit, both drivers of the dump truck and service truck were already out of the vehicles, discussing the dump truck repair.
