I am happy that Amherst Cinema exists and often patronize it.
But I lament the loss of Pleasant Street Theater and the absence of an art house movie theater in downtown Northampton. The presence of one is vital not only to the support and dissemination of arts and culture, but also to the building of a sense of community and the economic health of the city.
If Amherst or Brattleboro, Vermont, can have their art house movie theaters, why can’t Northampton? There are potential places in downtown Northampton where this movie house can be located. I know it takes money, determination and commitment for this to happen.
Have residents and officials of Northampton given up on this?
