WHATELY — An ambulance rolled over on Interstate 91 north Wednesday morning, causing five people to be seriously injured.
According to Massachusetts state police Lt. Tom Ryan, the ambulance rolled over around 9 a.m. Wednesday morning. The ambulance had five people on board, including one patient, a patient aide and three ambulance personnel.
According to Ryan, the 20-year-old female was operating an ambulance that was traveling northbound and went “slightly into the median.” She attempted to correct the vehicle, Ryan said, but over-corrected and turned the vehicle over, eventually coming to rest in the breakdown lane.
Several local ambulances and fire departments, including Northampton fire department and South County Emergency Medical Services, responded to the incident.
All five people involved were transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield for treatment of serious injuries, Ryan said.
