SOUTH HADLEY— An 18-year-old Springfield man driving without a license crashed into the back of a school bus on Ranger Street Friday morning, according to police.

Four students were on the bus heading to Michael E. Smith Middle School, according to South Hadley Police Chief Steve Parentela, and none were injured. Police received a call about the incident at 7:18 a.m.

At the scene, police reported seeing a gray 1996 Toyota Corolla stuck beneath the rear of the bus with shattered the windshield. The bus was apparently struck as it slowed to turn onto Newton Road from Ranger Street. The male driver, whose name has not yet been released, was taken by ambulance to Baystate Medical Center with injuries, according to Parentela.

According to superintendent Dr. Nicholas Young, the incident was minor, and caused no major disruptions to the school day. No charges have been filed as of yet, according to Parentela, but the incident is still under investigation.

“We are reviewing video footage from the bus,” Parentela said.
