The Trustees of Forbes Library want to thank all those who made the new accessible elevator in Forbes Library possible.
Special thanks go to Friends of Forbes Library and Smith College for their significant gifts and also to the city of Northampton for contributing nearly a half of the construction cost.
Federal money came in the form of a Community Development Block Grant that paid for the design work. Thomas Douglas Architects of Northampton created the beautiful Victorian design which so admirably suits the library building.
Invaluable fundraising was performed by the Forbes for All committee co-chaired by Judy and Mike Ryan with members Blaise Bisaillon, Gerald Budgar, Bonnie Burnham, Colleen Currie, Mary Fagan, Margaret Adams Groesbeck, Janet Hemminger, Jack Hornor, Martha McCormick, Chris Nolan, Alicia Ralph, Peter Rowe, and George Snook.
Forbes Library is an integral part of the Northampton community and it was the community effort of all donors, large and small, that made it possible to insure that Forbes is truly accessible to all.
