■Mayor Sean Dunphy and Jolly Old St. Nick (alias Sheriff John Boyle) on Friday flicked the switch that turns the trees near Hampshire County Courthouse into a blaze of red, blue and green Christmas lights. Hundreds attended the event which was sponsored by the Greater Northampton Chamber of Commerce.
■The Eastern National Morgan Horse Show held at the Three County Fairgrounds until last year, is considering a move back to Northampton next year. John Banner, treasurer of the Three-County Association, has confirmed rumors that the Morgan Horse Show is considering the move back to Northampton after leaving the city to hold the show at the Eastern States Coliseum this year.
■Out in the middle of the Connecticut River, a Christmas tree came to life last night. Russell Myette of 86 Riverbank Road, the creator of the event, shared the sight with the more than 100 people who showed up outside his home to help him celebrate.
■Demolition of the former Sacred Heart School on King Street is expected to begin next week. Completed in 1913 after three years of construction, the building had fallen into disrepair and was deemed too costly to bring up to code.
■Sam Calagione III, founder of the Dogfish Head Brewery, is the star of Discovery Channel’s new series “Brew Masters,” which premiered Sunday. The Greenfield native has made a name for himself making innovative beers.
■At the 21st annual Florence Christmas Parade, Santa Claus made his way on the Look Park float to the Florence Civic Center where he and Mrs. Claus greeted children and their families. Holiday treats were served to all during the Saturday event.
