BELCHERTOWN – The town’s Animal Control has been awarded a $2,625 state grant to help fund its efforts to spay and neuter feral cats.

“This will be a terrific asset in our effort to improve the lives of feral/community cats and stop the senseless cycle of reproduction and illness,” Belchertown Animal Control Officer Anna Fenton said in a release. The grant comes from the “I’m Animal Friendly” license plate program, a program of the Massachusetts Animal Coalition. Money raised from the special license plates is distributed to organizations for low-cost spay and neuter services.

Fenton urged residents with information about feral cats in town to contact her at 519-1754.
