In the Gazette political cartoon on Tuesday, Sept. 16, an image of our country is being torn apart by two left hands, subtly reinforcing the Trump/Vance lie factory.
From Timothy McVeigh to church and synagogue shooters to Charlottesville and January 6th, the right wing has dominated the assault and murder column. If we include anti-Black murders and violence by right-wing law enforcement like Bull Connor, J. Edgar Hoover and Klan- dominated state governments, the right-wing violence numbers are too big to count. (Unsurprisingly enough, the podcasters running the FBI just removed that data from the โJusticeโ Department website.)
As we mourn the murder (by yet another boy who shouldn’t have a gun) of white supremacist Charlie Kirk, who threatened educators and called Democrats “vermin,” let us remember what Kirk said: “I think itโs worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment.” That doesn’t exonerate Tyler Robinson, but it would be a fitting epitaph for Kirk.
It’s also worth a thought that Musk, Trump and a complicit GOP have killed more people in a few months by stealing allocated aid funds than have all of the entitled American boy terrorists with guns in this century. Medicaid denial deaths will follow if we can’t fix Congress at the midterms.
