Hatfield, MA – Joseph Kabat, son of the late Joseph and Loretta (Kozloski) Kabat died peacefully at home on November 15, two days after his 78th birthday.
Joe was raised on a farm in Hatfield and never stopped gardening, growing vegetables, decorative gourds and beautiful orange lanterns he sold at farmers markets and shared with everyone.
He was a gifted storyteller, very funny, with an amazing memory for details. He seemed to know everything about the town he grew up in. Deeply intelligent, curious and quirky, Joe was forever studying the law. He received a JD before starting his career as an accountant and never stopped learning. He earned an LLM specializing in elder law in 2016 and many certificates of excellence over the years.
He was a generous, devoted, and loving father, even taking snowboarding lessons in his late fifties, a significant undertaking for someone who was not much of an athlete. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for his daughter.
He leaves Elena Rose Haworth (neé Yasinski) and her husband Jake, his sister and brother-in-law Cynthia and David Hubert, his best friends Lorraine Yasinski and Dan Desmond, his niece and nephew Lauren and Douglas Kabat, and several cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents, his brother Lawrence, and his niece and nephew, Kristen and David Hubert.
At his request there will be no service. If you wish to honor his memory, donations can be made to the HRYMCA Parkinsons Program, 286 Prospect St., Northampton, MA 01060.
DROZDAL FUNERAL HOME OF NORTHAMPTON has been entrusted with his services.
