The puck has dropped on the high school hockey season and Amherst and Easthampton, Hampshire County’s only two boys squads, kicked off the 2025-26 campaign by facing off against each other last Saturday, Dec. 13 at Lossone Rink.

The Eagles took the season opener, 2-0, with goals from Jimmy Bresnahan and Max Scribner and will look to carry that momentum moving forward. Easthampton went winless in its first seven games last season, before finishing 8-11-1 and out of the MIAA Division 3 state tournament.

The Hurricanes qualified for the Div. 3 state tournament a year ago with 12-7 record, but fell in the Western Mass. semifinals to Taconic, 3-2, in overtime as the No. 1 seed.

Here’s a closer look at each area team as the 2025-26 season is now underway:

Amherst

Coach: Mike Rousseau/13th season

League/Division: Wright/3

Last year’s record: 12-7

Roster: Jason Kim (Sr., G), Alexander Savinov (So., G), Ethan Mooney (Sr., F/D), Alexander Marlin (Sr., D), Graham Arguin (Sr., F), Josh Feldman (Sr., F), Ben Remensnyder (Sr., F/D), Sawyer Ferro (Jr., F/D), Noah Latulippe (So., F), Nolan Mactavish (So., F), Silas Villegas Balboni (So., F), Alexander Putnam (So., F), Nate Desbien (So., F), Landon Lukasik (So., D), Sawyer Arguin (Fr., D), Brodie Palmisano (Fr., F), Landon Lacroix (Fr., F), Mason Sudusky (Fr., F), Camden Kimball (Fr., F), Lincoln Auclair (Fr., F/D).

Outlook: With Nate Desbien and Sawyer Ferro, among others, back, the Hurricanes should put together another strong season on the ice. The biggest question mark comes in goal as senior Jason Kim will likely assume the starting job after star keeper Spencer McDonald graduated last spring. Ethan Mooney and Graham Arguin are also players to watch. Amherst will look to claim a WMass championship for the first time in nearly a decade, last winning in 2016.

Easthampton

Coach: Tim Pfau/ Fifth season

League/Division: Wright/3

Last year’s record: 8-11-1

Roster: Lewin Coady (Jr., G), Tanner Levin (Fr., F), Leo Bowman (So., D), Brody Donovan (Sr., F) Avery Munster (Jr., F), Wyatt Hunter (So., F), Jimmy Bresnahan“C” (Sr., F), Cal Gworek (Jr., F), Angelo Torchia (So., F), Grayson Prevey-Catrambone “A” (Jr., F), Ben Rondeau (Fr., D), Max Scribner (Jr., D), Jamie Parrish (So., F), Owen Belden (Fr., F), Parker Christy “C” (Sr., D), Ryan Curley “A” (Sr., D), Brayden Fennsey (Jr., F), Ethan DeSwert (So., F), Wes Thompson (So., F), Tommy Bixby (Jr., G).

Outlook: The Eagles had an off year in 2024-25, but bring back a bulk of their roster, including expected impact players in Bresnahan and Parker Christy. Goalies Lewin Coady and Tommy Bixby will once again battle for the top spot between the pipes, while Christy and Ryan Curley will anchor the Easthampton blueline.
